FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we get asked most about replacement doors across Greater Manchester.

What's the difference between composite, uPVC and aluminium doors?

Composite doors have a solid timber-and-GRP core with a hard-wearing outer skin, giving them the most substantial feel and the widest style range — ideal for front entrances. uPVC doors are the most affordable choice, thermally excellent and low-maintenance, popular for back doors and side entrances. Aluminium doors use thermally broken frames for slim sightlines, large glazed areas and a modern finish, used most often for bi-folds, sliding patios and contemporary front entrances.

How secure are your doors?

Every door in our range comes with multipoint locking as standard (5 points minimum), anti-snap, anti-drill and anti-pick euro cylinders, and reinforced steel strengtheners inside the frame. Composite and aluminium entrance doors can be specified to Secured by Design standards — the UK police-preferred security specification recognised by insurers. Hinge-side security bolts and upgraded hardware options are available on request.

Should I choose bi-fold, sliding patio or French doors?

Bi-fold doors fold back concertina-style to open almost the entire aperture — best for wide openings where full opening and a big patio connection is the priority. Sliding patio doors run on a track with slim sightlines, ideal where you want maximum glass and an uninterrupted view but don't need the full span to open. French doors suit narrower openings (around 1.5–2.4m) and give a classic outward-opening look, often paired with sidelights to balance a wider aperture.

Can I have a low or level threshold for accessibility?

Yes — composite, aluminium bi-fold and sliding patio doors can all be specified with low-threshold or level-access options, helpful for wheelchair, pram or mobility access and for seamless indoor/outdoor flow to a patio. Where a level threshold is used, weatherproofing is maintained by integrated drainage channels and upgraded weather seals. We'll discuss what's suitable for your specific threshold build-up at the survey.

What's the lead time on a new door?

From signed order, installation is typically 3–7 weeks, depending on the door type and specification. Expedited options may be possible on stock colours and standard sizes — ask at survey if you have a specific deadline.

How long does it take to install a door?

A single front or back door is usually fitted in half a day to a full day, depending on the existing frame and any brickwork made-good required. Bi-fold and sliding patio doors typically take one full day for a standard opening, extending to two days where structural lintels or widened openings are involved. Our team clears up on completion, leaves the door fully operational the same day, and returns for any plastering or decoration if required.
